It was the deep relaxation (savasana) at my first yoga class that "hooked" me. In 2002 I began regularly attendingVinyasa class, adding Anusara,Bikram and Yoga Nidra classes over time. Since taking the Yoga Teacher Training here at FLY in August of 2008, I practice daily.
The connection between my work as a rehabilitation specialist and yoga is a complimentary match. In Occupational Therapy we use treatments and strategies to restore function in patient's daily lives. It may be assisting someone to walk after hip surgery, teaching them how to use techniques to adapt and equipment to facilitate movement while they heal. In yoga the use of postures (asanas) and props (adaptive equipment) can be used to restore and enhance physical function in the body. It is my desire to combine both disciplines to work with those of us who are aging to increase our expectations and performance , resulting in increased vitality and functional expectations. I strongly suggest a wonderful book "Younger Next Year" as a motivator towards this goal.
In my personal life I am a lover of all things textile, enjoy water sports, food from Caretaker and the funny talented children that have been the basis of my work as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. As I move forward towards working with adults it is my intention to
share the gift of yoga with emphasis on safety, alignment and an enhanced sense of freedom and respect for our wonderful
bodies. Please join me.
